Justin and Tiffany Coates
The Coates we're married in 2019 after meeting on mission in Tajikistan. Both had been called to serve in Central Eurasia and they have spent the last 10 years collectively doing that.
Both Justin and Tiffany point to their college years as a formative time for their faith and future. They are excited to now use their experiences abroad to invest in young leaders in that same formative stage of life.

OUR STORY
Lessons Learned
While serving together in a spiritually dark place, the Coates experienced the need to be deeply formed by Christ in order to live like Him among the lost. They also saw the immense need for more workers to be sent to the mission field. As they prayed about what their next season should look like, the Lord brought a surprising opportunity.
Multiplication
In late 2023, the Coates we're asked to join the Chi Alpha Staff of Sam Houston State University. While the invitation was somewhat surprising, after months of prayer and careful consideration, Justin and Tiffany began to see how the Lord could use their experiences overseas to help this important ministry rebuild with deep formation by Christ as a cornerstone. There was also a realization that they could multiply themselves by sending out many new missionaries from Chi Alpha to unreached peoples in the US and across the world .

Equip Leaders, Engage the Lost
The Coates are passionate about seeing young leaders equipped and formed deeply by Jesus so they can engage the local and global lost with the love of Christ. Their heart is to make disciples who make disciples.
Equipping Leaders
The Coates believe that lavish prayer, soaking in Scripture, relational discipleship, and accountability & vulnerability all facilitate deep formation by Jesus. Chi Alpha offers opportunities for young people to be involved in these things through small-group and large-group ministry. It is also a training ground for emerging leaders. Yearly many students go through LTC- the leadership training course that equips them to be disciple-makers themselves. XA equips and mobilizes these students to win their campus for Christ. XA also has a growing number of young adults who have gone through the ministry internship, many of whom go on to participate in full-time ministry on the campus, in churches, and across the world. The Coates are excited about the plentiful opportunities to engage with and help equip the next generation of Kingdom Leaders.
Engaging the Lost
The Secular College Campus is one of the largest mission fields in the world. Thousands of students flood our campus who have never experienced an authentic encounter with Jesus. Chi Alpha is present at Sam Houston State as a light to the lost with the goal of “Reconciling Students to Christ”.
Sam Houston Chi Alpha has a rich history as a missions-sending campus. The Coates are excited to build on this rich history of raising missionaries to reach the lost in neglected communities in the US and unreached people groups around the globe. SHSU XA encourages every student to be involved in the missions process. “Every student prays, every student gives, & every student Goes.”
The Coates also look forward to partnering with National Chi Alpha to re-establish Chi Alpha International (XAi) on the SHSU campus. They will work to, “disciple international students from friendship to leadership by loving them, serving them, and proclaiming Christ to them so that they will be disciples who make disciples of all nations!”
God has uniquely equipped Justin & Tiffany for this season of ministry and they are eager to see His Kingdom come at Sam Houston State and around the world!
